Deep teal and zesty lime yellow panels run from waist to hem, and thin lines of gold gota patti cross them at regular intervals, turning the skirt into a soft grid of colour. A wider gota border finishes the hem. With a 5 metre flair and a canvas patta underneath, the lehenga opens into a full circle when you spin and settles back into clean vertical lines when you stand still.
The choli ties the palette together. Thread embroidery in teal, white, magenta and yellow forms floral medallions and a scalloped border, with small mirrors set through the design. As styled here, it has a straight neckline, thin teal straps and a criss-cross lace-up back, a cut your tailor can recreate from the unstitched piece. Chunky oxidised silver jhumkas and a stack of kadas suit the folk mood of this set.
