Hot pink and bright orange panels alternate all the way around this lehenga, and together they read like a festival in fabric. The hem carries rows of gold gota patti and lace in graduated bands, so the border catches light each time the 5 metre flair swings out. A canvas patta underneath keeps the hem wide and heavy enough to hold its shape through every round of dancing.
The choli brings in a third colour. A purple base is covered edge to edge in thread embroidery, with pink, yellow and turquoise chakra motifs, zigzag borders and small mirrors worked into the pattern. As styled here, it has a scoop neck, tasselled shoulder ties and a row of cowrie shells along the hem, details your tailor can recreate from the unstitched piece. Keep jewellery simple with oxidised silver or wooden bangles and let the embroidery lead.
