Ivory Roman silk gives this kurta an almost painterly quality, crimson thread embroidery tracing vines, florals and butterflies across the front in a pattern that looks hand-sketched rather than repeated. A mandarin collar with a tasseled tie closure stands in for a standard button placket, a detail borrowed from resort and occasion wear more than traditional ethnic cuts. The hem finishes in a dense embroidered border with tiny tassels along its scalloped edge.
At 45 inches, the kurta runs long and flowing, closer to a kaftan than a fitted silhouette, which keeps it comfortable through long festive days. Straight Roman silk pants underneath come in a free size fit for ease of movement.
