Black gives the folk embroidery on this set room to glow. Two wide panels of pink, orange and blue thread work run from the shoulders into a deep V over a square neckline, set with real mirrors and edged with a row of cowrie shells. Below the bust, the top gathers into a pleated peplum that moves with you, and the flared bell sleeves repeat the embroidery and shell trim at the cuffs.
The palazzo keeps things easy. Wide legs in the same rayon silk fall straight to the floor, with a slim mirror work border running down the side seams and a larger embroidered motif near the hem. An elastic waistband means no fussing with fit. Turn around and the back surprises you with an open keyhole and criss-cross lace-up ties finished in tassels. Add oxidised or antique gold jhumkas and you are ready for a festive evening or a daytime puja.
